Uzma has been working as an expressive art therapist with children and adults of all age groups in a professional setting for 9 years. She holds a bachelors degree in Visual Art and Design and MA in Clinical Psychology. She is certified in two modules “Coping with stress” and “Dealing with trauma and anxiety” with FNE International USA. She has worked as an art facilitator and art therapist with children at an inclusive school in Gurgaon between 2014-2019. She was invited to deliver talk on Expressive art therapy by British Council Pune (2019) and Sublime Art Gallery Bangalore (2020).

Expressive art therapy is a process where in different art forms are integrated with various modules of psychotherapy. It is an amalgamation of art and psychology.

The various forms of art that are brought into practice during intervention are as follows:

  • Visual Art: The fine art resources and methods like painting and puppetry are used during intervention that helps express deep rooted conflicts
  • Clay Art: Clay as an intervention is extremely therapeutic for any age group
  • Play Therapy: Play therapy helps children cope with emotions and find solution to problems. At times practitioners make use of drama and role play too during regular play therapy
  • Movement and Dance Therapy: Movement therapy helps elevate mood and can be implemented at any age
